Obituary of Bessie (Mihelsi) Stavropoulos

Bessie (Mihelis) “Vasiliki” Stavropoulos, 91, of Peabody, died Friday morning at the Rosewood Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Stavropoulos. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Angelica (Theodoracopoulos) Mihelis. She was raised and educated in Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools. She worked in the food service industry, first at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers and later at the Ledgewood Nursing Home as a dietary aide. She was a creative and active woman who enjoyed knitting fine Irish wool sweaters. She also was very active with St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the Philoptohos Athena Society. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Elizabeth Stavropoulos of Hooksett, NH and Arthur Stavropoulos and his wife Joyce McNamara of Danvers, a sister, Esther Daly of Danvers, and is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicole Scaletti, Stephanie Ellison, and Nicholas, Michael and Kathy Stavropoulos, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Pauline Stavropoulos and sister of the late George Mihelis, Julia Karra, Ernest Miles, and Charles Micola. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, at the NEW 82 LYNN ST., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
