Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late James and Marion (Very) Powers. She grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School. She looked forward to gathering them along with friends on holidays and summer vacations, while she and her husband busied themselves to ensure that each event was a memorable occasion. She also took great pleasure in spending time at the family cottage in Lake Ossipee, NH, where she enjoyed lake life to its fullest. Jan also stepped up helping to care for her grandchildren as their parents were working, and her children and grandchildren are forever grateful, as she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Jan’s family remembers her as a mother who was beautiful, loving and devoted, while always putting her family’s well-being before her own. Even during her 17 year long battle with Alzheimer’s her main concern was always everyone else’s welfare.
