Obituary of Robert Leo Cassidy
Robert L. Cassidy, 89, of Wakefield and formerly of Peabody, died Thursday morning at Brightview Wakefield following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Ermise (Richard) Cassidy and the late Marie (Craig) Cassidy. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Edward and Susan (Murphy) Cassidy. He was raised and educated in Peabody and has spent most of his life living in Peabody before moving to Lynnfield and Wakefield these last 2 years. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War who served with the United States Army for two years before he was honorably discharged in 1953. Following the war, Robert worked in the Engineering Department for over 40 years at the GTE Sylvania on Boston St in Salem before he retired. He enjoyed tinkering and dabbling around the home and also enjoyed traveling, especially to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. Robert is survived by his two sons, George Cassidy of Salem and Glen Cassidy and his wife Maria of Epping, NH, his two daughters, Ellen Carey and Cheryl Driscoll and her husband Darryl, all of Lynn, and by his beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Cassidy and his sister Eileen Cassidy-Maguire. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
