Obituary of Daniel R. O'Neill

Daniel R O’Neill, 86, of Danvers and formerly of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the devoted husband of Barbara A. (O’Connor) O’Neill with whom he shared over 64 years of marriage. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Michael F. and Helen (O’Leary) O’Neill. He was raised in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1954. Daniel lived in Peabody for 52 years before moving to Danvers 6 years ago. Daniel was employed with General Electric in both Schenectady, NY and Lynn, MA for a total of 40 years before retiring in 1994. He held several managerial positions at GE in Lynn. For several years, he taught evening classes in trigonometry and algebra to GE apprentices and taught computer programming classes for GE engineers. Daniel was a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Lynnfield for many years and was a West Peabody Little League manager, and was also a manager of the O.L.A. CYO baseball team. He enjoyed bowling and playing softball in the GE leagues and also enjoyed playing bridge and had been a member of the American Contract Bridge League. Besides his loving wife of 64 years, he is survived by his children, Kathleen Rancourt and her husband Bruce of Marshfield, Steven O’Neill and his wife Corinne of Woburn, Robert O’Neill and his wife Mary Ystueta of Littleton and Karen Maziarka and her husband Michael of Boston, and is also survived by his 5 beloved grandchildren, Matthew Rancourt, Jennifer Donovan, Brian O’Neill, Erin O’Neill and Ryan Maziarka. He was predeceased by his siblings, John and Thomas O’Neill and Katherine Anish. His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Danvers to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org/donate.
