Obituary of Donald M. "Don" Quintal

Donald “Don” M. Quintal, 85 PEABODY – Donald “Don” M. Quintal, 85, beloved husband of Beverly (Sawdey) Quintal, died unexpectedly on Friday September 21, 2018. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Jeannette Quintal. He grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1952. He studied Engineering and received a degree from the Lowell Technological Institute, which later became University of Massachusetts Lowell. Don enjoyed working for Raytheon in Waltham, MA as an Engineer for 28 years. His most proud accomplishment was working on the Poseidon Missile Project. After taking an early retirement, he drove a school bus for the City of Peabody Public Schools for 18 years. Affectionately known as “Mr. Don” to all the children, he enjoyed watching them grow from elementary age through high-school graduation. Don loved spending time with family and the outdoors. He was a member of the Peabody Jaycees where he had fond memories of the Soap Box Derby at the North Shore Shopping Center. He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 103 in Peabody. He was also a proud member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club. He had a strong passion for cooking seafood. He would light-heartedly joke that it was his “Secret family recipe” that make all of his dishes so wonderfully delicious. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who had an infectious sense of humor. His smile, jokes and wit would light up any room. He is survived by his wife Beverly Quintal of Peabody, with whom he enjoyed 61 years of marriage; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Karen Quintal of Plainville; a daughter Laurie Quintal and her fiancé Robert Berns of Peabody; four grandchildren, Danielle Hale and her husband James and Shari-Rae McCarthy and her husband Shaun, Jackson Quintal and Leah Grace Quintal; five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Madeline, Willow, Graham, and Luke, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Marjorie Quintal and Bertram Quintal. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
