Obituary of Thomas H. McDonald

Thomas H. McDonald, 98 PEABODY – Thomas H. McDonald, 98, beloved husband of the late Phyllis (McCarthy) McDonald, died peacefully at his home on Friday September 21, 2018 while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Mary G. (O’Connell) McDonald. He grew up in Salem where he attended schools, then graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lynn. He pursued education goals with a degree from Northeastern University, then M.B.A. from Boston University and a Master degree in Communication from Emerson College. Mr. McDonald was a Cost Accountant with General Electric in Lynn for 45 years. He was then called back by General Electric, A.E.G., to work as a Special Projects Accountant, for about five years. Tom was a Life Member of the National Association of Cost Accountants (Stuart Cameron McLeod Society, Past President) which became the Institute of Management Accountants. When he met his wife, they both shared Equestrian skills and enjoyed their time with horses. He was a photographer and a member of the Lynn Camera Club. He was athletic and enjoyed skiing, as well as playing tennis into his 80’s. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend with a strong devotion in faith. He is survived by a son, Bruce McDonald and his companion Ilse Peirce of Salem; a grandson Brendan and his wife Rebecca McDonald of North Weymouth; a great-grandson, Harrison McDonald, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
