Obituary of Gertrude M. (Kutlowski) Zdanowicz

Gertrude M. (Kutlowski) Zdanowicz, of Peabody, died Friday afternoon at the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Edmond Zdanowicz. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Boleslaw and Sabina Kutlowski. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1947. Upon marrying her husband Edmond, she moved to Peabody where she has lived for the past 67 years. After her children were grown, Gertrude worked as an office clerk for her brother’s publishing company, Tower Press in Seabrook, NH for many years before retiring many years ago. She was an avid reader and loved traveling to Poland and the Islands, but her favorite endeavor was spending time with her family entertaining, cooking and spending time with them, especially during the holidays. Gertrude loved poetry and her favorite was by J. Russell Wiggins which was read at E.B. White’s 1985 memorial service: “Then softly sinks the summers sun/ When all the chores of day are done/ And in the darkness, leaves behind/ A strange impression of the mind:/ A medley mixed of joy and grief,/ A song of sorrow, and relief./ Of Sorrow that another day/ In one’s short life has gone its way,/ Of joy and tasks achieved in pride./ Of sorrow in the hopes that died./ When, like the day, some end their duty,/ They, too, somehow, depart in beauty.” Gertrude is survived by her son Stephen and his wife Laura Zdanowicz of Bethlehem, PA, her daughter, Sabina Zdanowicz of Peabody, her brother and sister-in-law, John and Kathy Kutlowski of Brockport, NY, her daughter-in-law Carol Zdanowicz of Peabody, and is also survived by her beloved 5 grandchildren, Michael Zdanowicz, Jr, Joseph Zdanowicz, and Sarah Drolet, all of Peabody, Stefan Zdanowicz of Bethlehem, PA and Anya Zdanowicz of Philadelphia, PA., and by her two great grandchildren, Audrey and Addison Drolet. She was predeceased by her son Michael Zdanowicz and by her siblings, Edward and Michael Kutlowski, Helene Jones, and Jane McKay. Following cremation, visiting hours will be held on Friday from 10 AM until 12:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by her Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
