Obituary of Sr. Julie Theresa Kane S.N.D.

Sr. Julie Theresa Kane (Therese Julie Kane) SND, went home to the Good God whom she had served in the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur for over seventy years on October 2, 2018. She was the daughter of the late William and Abbie (Cahill) Kane both from Ireland. She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Ann and Bob Englehardt of Beverly and predeceased by her brothers, William Kane, SVD, Joseph Kane, CFX, James Kane and her sisters, Charlotte Kane, SND, and Marie Kane and well as loving nieces and nephews. Sr, Julie’s ministries took her to numerous schools in Massachusetts as a classroom teacher. She spent twelve years in parish work in Waterville, Maine, where she became an activist member of Pax Christi, an international Catholic peace movement with a mission to ‘transform a world shaken by violence, terrorism and inequalities, and global insecurity. As an advocate for peace and justice, she travelled with Fr. Dan Berrigan and spoke of behalf of this movement. Among her latest ministries was her work in Bridgeport, CT where she worked to rehabilitate former inmates and ready them for employment. Before moving to Ipswich for retirement, Sr. Julie founded the Beverly Chapter of Pax Christi. In her retirement, she was a woman of prayer, peace and presence to all she met. Her thirst of knowledge and truth never diminished. She constantly nurtured the numerous relationships that had added richness to her life. She will be deeply missed by her Sisters, family members and by all who were part of the rich fabric of her beautiful life. Her Services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Our Lady of Queen Chapel in Ipswich. The visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, a Prayer Service at 2:00 PM and the Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
