Obituary of James R. Wholly

James R. Wholly, Sr. 90 PEABODY – James R. Wholly, 90, beloved husband of the late Virginia (Cummings) Wholly, died peacefully on Sunday October 7, 2018 at the U-Mass Memorial Hospital in Leominster, following an extended illness, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Boston, he was the son of Marion Wholly. He grew up in Cambridge. He was a “Double Eagle,” after graduating from Boston College High School and from Boston College, Class of 1953. He was a veteran of two wars, serving in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was an Industrial Engineer, working with Sonoco packaging in the Fort Devens area many years. Jim enjoyed being outdoors tending to his garden. He loved music whether singing in a choir, or enjoying Irish songs. He was creative, and received a patent for his invention of the rheostat. A generous person, he volunteered time with the Jesuits building homes or shelters combined with his passion for travel. He contributed much to others, and worked nine years for Center House in Boston for those with intellectual challenges. He is survived by a son and daughter and their spouses, Florence Davis and her husband Randen of Ashburnham and James Wholly, Jr. and his wife Anne of Bangor, ME; seven grandchildren, Deirdre Wholly, Liam Wholly, Conor Wholly, Audrey Williams, Kenneth Williams, Amanda Williams, Kaeli Davis, Jeffrey Davis, and Randen Robert Davis; five great-grandchildren, Trevor, Brayden, Jacob, Lucas and Declan James. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Friday October 12, 2018 from 10 – 11:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 Noon in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. Urn burial with committal prayers on Saturday at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
