Obituary of Joao Amorim Rodas

Joao Amorim Rodas PEABODY—Joao Amorim Rodas, 64, beloved husband of Teresa Gomes (Cerqueira) Rodas, died Saturday afternoon at his home following a lengthy illness. Born in Portugal, he was the son of Emilia Pereira Amorim Rodas of Peabody and the late Joaquim Amorim Rodas. He lived in Portugal for many years, and lived in Peabody for over 30 years. He was a Machinist for 14 years at GTE Sylvania, then was employed by the City of Peabody as a Custodian at the Higgins Middle School for 14 years before his illness. Mr. Rodas loved sports of all kinds, especially Soccer. He also like music and dancing, and danced with the Portuguese Folk Group, Rancho Folklorica for years. He is survived by: his wife, Teresa Gomes (Cerqueira) Rodas of Peabody, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage; one son, John Gomes Rodas of Peabody; two daughters, Jacqueline Gomes Rodas and Rosemary Gomes Rodas, both of Peabody; his mother, Emilia Pereira Amorim of Peabody; two sisters, Maria Amorim Rodas and Maria Rosa Barros, and their families, all of Peabody, and many nieces, nephews, cousins in the United States, France, and in Portugal. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Church St., Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 9 P.M. Burial will be in Porto, Portugal.
