Obituary of George W Silva
George W. Silva, 76, of Peabody, died early Sunday morning at the Rosewood Nursing Home, following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Emily (Kohut) Silva, with whom he recently celebrated their 56 wedding anniversary.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Tiago and Virginia Isabella Silva and stepson of the late Olive Silva. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools.
He was a veteran of WWII, who served with the United States Navy and was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for over 20 years as production Manager for Allston Machine in Beverly and later for GSF in Andover and for three years for General Electric. After his retirement, he worked part-time for Friend Box in Danvers.
He enjoyed Ball Room Dancing, 10-pin bowling and taking quiet getaways vacations with his wife and family. He also was a member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Club in Peabody.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Lise Silva of Amherst, New Hampshire; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and William Prushinski of Interval, New Hampshire, a brother, Robert Silva of Florida, two sisters, Delphine Lobao and Mary Souza, both of Peabody and Marguerite Pinto of Middleton; three granddaughters, Ashley and Crystal Silva of Amherst, NH, and Amy Prushinski of Interval, NH. He was the brother of the late Manuel Silva, Phoebe Batista, and Rose Monyhan.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 4 until 7 :00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
