Sgt. Robert J. Conway, 71 PEABODY – Robert J. Conway, 71, a retired Peabody Police Sergeant, died peacefully on Wednesday October 31, 2018 at the Hunt Retirement & Skilled Nursing Facility in Danvers, following an extended illness. Mr. Conway served the community as a Police Officer with the City of Peabody, retiring as a Sergeant following 35 years of service. He served as one of the initial Motorcycle Police Officers in Peabody. Bob lived a life of adventure, and enjoyed many interests. Besides enjoying a motorcycle ride, he had a passion for photography and the outdoors. He was an avid skier, and spent many weekends with friends at Stowe and other ski areas, enjoying the early or very late runs down the slopes. If you were lucky enough to spend time with Bob, you were probably canoeing, kayaking, camping, biking, skiing, or driving some distance for the best burger or ice cream you ever tasted! He was a longtime volunteer and coach for the Cross Country Team at St. John the Baptist School in Peabody. He volunteered for the Jimmy Fund and supported the Old Timers Baseball Game on Labor Day in Peabody for many years. He would often play the role of Santa at the Peabody Police Union Christmas Party. He is survived by a daughter and son, Kim Andersen and her husband Rob of Gloucester and Ian Conway and his wife Bethany of Malden; two grandchildren, Robbie and Eric Andersen; two brothers, Edward Conway, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Manchester and David Conway and his wife Cheryl of Amesbury, and he also leaves his beloved nieces Jessica, Allyson, and Meghan, and other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
