Obituary of Peter Ritsos

Peter Ritsos, 89, of North Carolina and formerly of Peabody, Massachusetts died early Tuesday morning at the Transitions William M. Dunlap Center for Caring Hospice Home in Raleigh, North Carolina following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Sally (Scangos) Ritsos. Born in Poros, Greece, he was the son of the late Stavros and Matima (Thivou) Ritsos and the brother of the late Vasilios. He was raised and educated in Greece and served in the Greek Royal Navy before immigrating to the United States in 1954. He had lived in Peabody for over 60 years before relocating to North Carolina. He was the Valedictorian of his U.S. Citizenship class and took great pride in becoming a citizen in 1957. He was a life time member of the Order of AHEPA and St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. Peter was the top performing Sales Consultant at Peabody Chrysler Plymouth for over 32 years before his retirement in 2001. Peter and his wife enjoyed traveling in Europe, Egypt and the Holy Lands. Peter is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Service at 9:30 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church.
