Obituary of Edwin P. Silva
Edwin P. Silva, 85, of Peabody, passed away Thursday afternoon at the Kaplan Family Hopsice House in Danvers, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Jeannette (Mello) Silva. Edwin was born on June 17, 1933, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, son of the late John and Maria (Pereira) Silva. He was raised and educated there, until coming to the United States at the age of 17. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a leather worker for Struess Tanning in Peabody. While living in Peabody, he was a member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Post 1, Clube de Luis Camoes, Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, and Our Lady of Fatima Church. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and boating and fishing on the ocean. He also enjoyed traveling to his home island of Graciosa. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Daniel Silva of Kingsland, GA, Maureen Allen of Rohnert, CA; his grandchildren, Sandy Silva, Mathew Silva, Christopher Allen, and Jacob Allen; his great-grandchildren, Jennifer Allen, Vanessa Allen, Isabella Silva; and a brother, Marino Silva. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 26, from 4-8P.M. at the Conway, Cahill- Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. Peabody. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 27 at 9A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody at 10 A.M. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
