Obituary of Chester W. Chmiel
Chester W. Chmiel, 74 PEABODY – Chester W. Chmiel, 74, beloved husband of Josephine (Zocco) Chmiel, died unexpectedly on Wednesday November 28, 2018 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Bryne and Martha (Swiniarski) Chmiel. He was a life-long resident of Peabody. He graduated from St. John the Baptist School in Peabody, Class of 1958, and Essex Agricultural School in Middleton, Class of 1962. Mr. Chmiel enlisted in the United States Navy for four years, from 1964 – 1968, serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for Borden Chemical, H.E. Raymond’s News Agency, Moore Manufacturing, Harmony Metal Products, Micrion, Converge, and C & E Direct in the shipping and receiving department. Chet, as he was affectionately known, had many craftsman skills. He studied horticulture, so he and his wife created a serene, peaceful garden they enjoyed at their home. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a strong will and perseverance, and lived with an independent spirit. He is survived by his wife Josephine Chmiel of Peabody, with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage; a daughter Linda DiCologero and her husband Anthony; two grandchildren, Jessica and Emily DiCologero all of Peabody; a brother-in-law Paul Zocco of Beverly, a sister-in-law Eileen Chmiel of Danvers, nephews and nieces Paul and Patricia Zocco, Philip Zocco, Richard and Holly Zocco, Susan and Brad Norton, Kathy and Joshua Eisen, Christopher and Dianna Chmiel, Jason and Lynda Chmiel, Erin and Andrew Hudson, Ryan and Jessica Chmiel, and many great-nephews and great-nieces as well as his beloved cat “Hunter”. He was predeceased by his brother Alfred Chmiel, sister-in-law Dorothy Zocco and nephew Peter Zocco. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday December 5, 2018 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:30 – 6:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
