Obituary of George Georgion

George Georgion, 85, of Peabody, died Friday evening at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Agnes (Sampsonis) Georgion with whom he shared over 23 years of marriage and was the husband of the late Mary (Havenook) Georgion who died in 1980. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Stephen and Margaret (Lecakis) George. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools. He was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army. He was the owner/operator of the Community Taxi Company on Main Street for over 43 years until his retirement. He also was a member of St. Vasilios Men’s Club, Order of AHEPA and a longtime communicant of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, all in Peabody. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody and also was a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s group. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Neva Georgion of Peabody, two daughters, Lois Georgion of Boston and Maggie Georgion of Malden, two sisters, Anna George of Peabody, and S. Marcia Guinta of Salem, two grandchildren, Mary Margaret and her husband, William Smith and Neva Stephanie Georgion, all of Peabody, a very good friend, Kathy MacDonald of Malden and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William George, James Lecakis, and Georgia and Chrysanthe George. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 LYNN STREET, Peabody, followed by Funeral Services at 10:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
