Obituary of Phyllis R (Hallowell) Manoogian

Phyllis R. (Hallowell) Manoogian, 96, of Peabody, wife of the late Robert C. Manoogian, passed away at her home with her family at her side on Sunday, December 2, 2018. She was born in Peabody, MA on November 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Melville and Marion (Beckett) Hallowell and was a lifelong resident of Peabody graduating from Peabody High School in 1940. She had been employed at the Sylvania Lighting in Salem for 6 years prior to her marriage. Phyllis had been a member for over 75 years at the Methodist Church in Peabody and belonged to the Uncle Elmer’s Song Circle that sang at churches and on the radio in the North Shore. She was a member of the Peabody senior center Drill Team for nine years performing in variety shows and other events. Phyllis and her husband had been members of the Riverside Squares Square dance group of Danvers for over 50 years. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing on Saturday evenings. She had been a member of the Sweet Adeline’s of Wakefield. In her youth she enjoyed mountain climbing with her husband, walking 25 miles, bike riding to Gloucester and later camping with her family. She was very fond of her grandfather Beckett playing cards and living with him in her youth. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Paula Manoogian Cole and Errol Cole and Roberta Manoogian Beltran and Ines Beltran all of Lynn, MA and Gayle B. and Charles Spurr of Wakefield, her grandchildren, Daniel and Joseph Spurr, Mukunda, Caitanya, Krsna and Rama Manoogian, her three great grandchildren, Joanna, Eliette and Bronwen Spurr and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Joanne P. Manoogian the sister of the late Calvin Hallowell, Burnette Daniels and Frances Ball. A Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 until 5:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility. Her Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 8. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Shriners Burns Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02116. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton.
