Obituary of Mary (Mantsourani) Baletsa

Mary (Mantsourani) Baletsa, 18 days short of her 100th birthday, died peacefully at her residence on Saturday, December 8 2018 with her family by her side. She was the devoted wife of 50 years to Charles Baletsa. Mary was born in Farrell, PA on December 26, 1918, the daughter of the late William and Melpo Pappachristou and following the death of her mother, her father took the family back to Lesvos, Greece where she resided before returning to the United States in 1948. Mary was a founder of the Muntsy’s Sub Shop in Peabody that started in 1964 in downtown Peabody and later moved to the Lake St., West Peabody location and worked for over 25 years prior to her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed gardening around her home and knitting. She and her husband made many visits back to Greece and had been a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn . She is survived by her husband Charles Baletsa, her three sons, Steve Mantsourani and his wife Angelina, Charles Mantsourani and his wife Susan and George Mantsourani all of Peabody, her precious grandchildren, Steven, Peter, Michael and Lisa Mantsourani of Peabody and Nicole Park of Danvers; her seven cherished great grandchildren, Aaron, Tyler, Michael, Kaitlyn, Aria Manstsourani and Nicolas and Alex Park and many nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 12 at 9:00 am from the funeral home followed by Services in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 So. Common St., Lynn at 10:00 AM.
