Obituary of Robert F. "Bob" Burns

Robert F. “Bob” Burns, 94, of Salisbury and formerly of Lynn and Peabody, died Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Pearl (Rich) Burns who passed away in 1993. He was born in Lynn, MA on May 30, 1924, the son of the late John E. “Micky” and Rose (La Rocque) Burns. He resided in Lynn until 1965 and then moved to Peabody. Robert had worked for the City of Lynn at the Pine Grove Cemetery for 37 years before retiring, as a foreman, in 1981. After he retired he enjoyed working for the Saugus Council of Aging as a driver, “Captain Bob”. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Navy. Bob was a very charismatic and witty man. He always enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh. Bob was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing Bingo. He was a very loyal friend, always willing to help others and loved all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Bessom of Salisbury, MA, his five precious grandchildren, Dawn Hazelton of Salem, NH, Tammy Gooch of Dracut, Christin Destefano of Tewksbury, Cassia Gilroy of Salisbury and Donnie Bessom of Newburyport, 11 great grandchildren, a companion, Jean Pandolfo of Saugus and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Robert H. Burns, the brother of the late James “Eddie” Burns and Peg Swiderski and the grandfather of the late Michael Guerriero Webb. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 9:30 until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Service there at 11:30 A.M.
