Obituary of Donalda M. Tomaz

Donalda M. (Bettencourt) Tomaz, 82, of Peabody, passed away on Friday December 7, in her home island of Graciosa, Azores, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Tomas. Donalda was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, on February 2, 1936, daughter of the late Jose Vitorino and Bacilisa (Melo) Bettencourt. She was raised and educated there, before immigrating to the United States. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an assembler for the Altron Corp. for 27 years. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, where she was also a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society and The Portuguese Continental Union. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends, and will be missed by all of those who knew her. She leaves behind her children, Victor Tomas of Peabody, Isabel Tomas of Graciosa, and Antonina and her husband Bobby Dixon of Danvers; her grandchildren, Ricardo, Raquel, Matthew, Katie and Alexandre; her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jayden, Camilia, and Natalia, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers Delmiro Bettencourt and Uldemiro Bettencourt. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20, from 6 – 8 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. in Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 21, at the funeral home at 8am, followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, at 9AM.
