Obituary of Steven P. Themes
Steven P. Themes, 94 PEABODY – Steven P. Themes, 94, beloved husband of the late Lucille (Pelletier) Themes, died Wednesday December 26, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, after an extended illness, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Peter and Vasaliki (Chronis) Themes. He grew up in Peabody where he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1942, and played baseball and football, with a key pass for Peabody to win the State Championship in 1940. Steve enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving on the U.S.S. Nevada during World War II. Upon returning, he enrolled at the Mass College of Pharmacy where he studied before taking leave to marry Lucille. He worked for the U.S. Post Office in Peabody for 41 years of service. Steve was very involved in the community. He was involved with the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 1409 of Peabody, where he served numerous roles. He was a Past Exalted Ruler in Peabody, a District Deputy of the Massachusetts East District, and served for 33 years at the State Chapter as Ritual Judge. He was named Elk of the Year for 1992 – 1993. He also was a member of the Masons, with Jordan Lodge AM & FM of Peabody where he was Worshipful Master in 1966, Life Member of the Massachusetts Consistory, a member of the Scottish Rites Bodies of Salem and the Aleppo Temple of Shriners. He also was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 100 of Peabody, the American Legion Post 153 of Peabody, and V.F.W. Post 1011 of Peabody, and the Fleet Reserve Association # 31. Steve enjoyed Ballroom Dancing with his wife, which is where they first met because “she was the best dancer in the whole room.” He was an avid football fan and cheered on the Patriots every game. Later in life he taught Line Dancing at the Torigian Life Center, alongside his brother Angelo. He enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars, and in his mind was a judge as he kept a weekly score of the contestants. He would always recap the performances with his niece Angela over the phone later that night. In the Summer months he enjoyed spending time with family at his niece Paula’s house. He could be found napping in the sunshine or telling stories of his football glory days and life on the Nevada. He became the surrogate grandfather to his great nieces and nephews after his beloved brother Angelo passed away. He was always appreciative and caring , and never once went a day without thanking his family and telling them he loved them. He was a genuine man who never asked for much other than a second helping of oatmeal at breakfast and to keep his shelves fully stocked with Ralph Lauren Polo cologne. He looked forward to Monday visits from this great-great niece Adelaide and every Dancing with the Stars finale he would celebrate with an ice cream party with his nieces and great-nieces from Cherry Farm, maple walnut was his favorite. Steven will be greatly missed, especially his hugs and his family is eternally grateful for being part of his life. He is survived by his devoted niece Paula Powers who has been his caretaker since 2011 and her husband John of Beverly; great-nieces & great-nephew Erinn Powers, Keelinn Powers, Brendan Powers & his wife Annah, and a great-great-niece Adelaide; his loving niece Angela Themes and her husband James Quatrale of Maui, HI.
