Obituary of Floyd Allen Minter

Floyd Allen Minter, 80 PEABODY – Floyd Allen Minter, 80, beloved husband of Nancy (Brooks) Minter, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday December 27, 2018 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Tappahannock, VA, he was the son of the late James and Irene (Parker) Minter. Allen grew up in Virginia where he attended school, living there for 24 years before enlisting in the United States Army. His service in the Army brought him to the North Shore of Massachusetts where he was assigned to the B Battery 3rd Missile Battalion at the Danvers Nike Ajax site where he served until his honorable discharge in 1964. Allen worked in the thriving Peabody leather community as a millwright at the Larrabee & Hingston Tannery for 35 years before retiring from the industry. In his retirement, Allen continued his service within the community working as a Crossing Guard for the City of Peabody for over 10 years. Allen always remained proud and true to his roots in rural Virginia. He enjoyed “old style” country music, camping, and the simple pleasures of taking his family for long drives into the country. His greatest enjoyment often came from relaxing at home in his recliner with quiet gatherings of family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving, caring, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Brooks) Minter of Peabody, with whom he shared over 55 years of marriage; two sons and a daughter, Richard Minter, Wayne Minter and Tammy Starion all of Peabody; four grandchildren, Alex Minter, Chris Minter, Dylan Starion and Kayla Collibee; a sister-in-law Hazel Minter of VA, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late William Minter and Thomas Minter. Following cremation, relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday January 5, 2019 from 12 Noon to 1:30 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service honoring his life at 1:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations are asked to be made to the Adopt-A-Stray Rescue, 14601 Ansata Drive, Alexander, AR 72002.
