Obituary of Paul W. Niconchuk
Paul W. Niconchuk, 89 of Peabody, husband of the late Joan M. (Rice) Niconchuk passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington. Paul was born in Peabody, MA, son of Wasil and Anna (Worobey) Niconchuk. He attended the Samuel Brown Grammar School and graduated from Peabody High School in 1947. While a student in high school, he was a member of the baseball and hockey teams. Following high school, he matriculated to Norwich University in Northfield, VT, and graduated with the class of 1951. He then entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and served with the 141st Tank Battalion at Fort Campbell, KY. Upon graduating from armored school at Fort Knox, KY, his unit was assigned to the European Theater for the post war occupation of Germany. Having fulfilled his military obligation, he enrolled at Babson College and graduated in 1955 with an MBA. Paul was employed at both AT&T and Lucent Technologies for a combined total of 34 years and retired from Lucent Technologies as a Senior Industrial Engineer in 1989. In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf at Wenham Country Club, gardening and spending some of the winters in South Carolina. Paul is survived by his longtime companion, Germaine Downer of Reading, by his loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews all of whom loved him dearly, and his many friends. In addition to his late wife Joan, he was also predeceased by his parents and his siblings Alec Niconchuk, Katherine Vaughn and Stella Elchook. His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 9th at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Grant Hoofnagle officiating. The family requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the MGH/North Shore Cancer Center, www.massgeneralnorthshore.org , 102 Endicott St., Danvers, MA 01923.
