Obituary of Teresa (Lewicki) Szmyd

Teresa (Lewicki) Szmyd, 63, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody. She was the devoted wife of Emil Szmyd with whom she shared over 43 years of marriage. Born and raised in Dubno, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Tadeusz and Kamila (Kukrowski) Lewicki. She has been living in Peabody for the past 58 years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and had an extended flower garden. She also was very active in the Polish Community. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Society at St. Joseph’s Church, Peabody, a 35 year member of the Polish Falcons, Salem, MA #188, where she was in charge of activities and was a physical instructor. She also was a recipient of the Bronze Star for her long time service with the Polish Falcons and was a national member of the Polish Women’s Federation of the Kosciusko Foundation. Mrs. Szmyd also attended Endicott College part-time, and in 2005, she received her bachelor’s degree in business administration. Besides her loving husband, she is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward Szmyd of Peabody, Richard and his wife Catherine Szmyd of Peabody, and Robert Szmyd of Helena, Alabama. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicholas, Maggiemae, Isabella, and Rose Szmyd. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem
