Obituary of Sr. Ellen Julie Flanagan, S.N.D.

Sr. Ellen Julie Flanagan, S.N.D., 94 FLANAGAN, S.N.D., Sr. Ellen Julie – (Helen Louise Flanagan) of Worcester and Ipswich, and Somerville. Sr. Ellen slipped peacefully into the embrace of the good God at the Long-Term Care Center for the Sisters of Notre Dame in Worcester on January 13, 2019. Sr. Ellen was born in Somerville, daughter of the late Irish immigrants John and Ellen (Dillon) Flanagan. She was sister of the late Mary McBrine, and leaves many nieces and nephews besides her loving Notre Dame community. After Sister Ellen’s vows, her teaching career started in 1947, and served as Principal at St. John’s School in Peabody from 1974 to 1982, as well as at Presentation Academy in Brighton from 1983 to 1984. She taught in Providence, Lawrence, Marblehead, East Boston, Woburn, Methuen, and St. Joseph College in West Harford, CT, as well as serving as Pastoral Associate at St. Monica in Methuen and Immaculate Conception in Newburyport. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to the celebration of Sr. Ellen’s life held at Mary Queen Chapel in Ipswich on Wednesday January 16, 2019 with a Wake Service at 1 P.M., Prayer Service at 2 P.M., and at 3 P.M. the Liturgy of Christian Burial.
