Obituary of James L. Maloney
James L. Maloney, 93 PEABODY – James L. Maloney, 93, beloved husband of the late Elena (Garofalo) Maloney, died peacefully on Monday January 14, 2019 at the Continuing Care at Brooksby Village in Peabody, following a brief illness, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John and Ellen B. (Tracey) Maloney. He grew up in the Mission Hill area of Boston, and graduated from Boston High School. In 1986 he received an Associate’s Degree in Business from Northeastern University. He was a machinist with the Reece Corporation in Waltham, and eventually became a supervisor there for many years. After retiring from Reece, he worked as an inspector with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Jim enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife, and was very active with the Peabody Senior Center and Torigian Community Life Center of Peabody. He was very devoted in his faith and served as an usher at St. Adelaide’s Church in Peabody. He loved people, enjoyed making people laugh, and will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by a son and two daughters, Richard and Cynthia Maloney of Naples, FL, Gloria and John Hartigan of Londonderry, NH, and Melinda and Robert DeBonis of Lynnfield; five grandchildren, Justin Maloney, Eva Maloney, Christa Hartigan Jaques and her husband Christopher, Cara Hartigan, and Robert James (Robbie) DeBonis, and a future great-grandson, Jackson, soon to be born, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas F. Maloney, George Maloney, Margaret Carey, Gertrude Boucher, (Ellen) Rita Carroll, Elizabeth “Libby” Loughman, and Theresa Schwartz. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday January 19, 2019 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Memorial donations may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
