Obituary of Delia LaSallette Bettencourt

Delia G. LaSallette (Bettencourt) Bettencourt, 88, of Peabody, died early Sunday afternoon at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Antonio Bettencourt. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Edilio G. and Virginia (Silva) Bettencourt. She was a lifelong resident of the city and attended Peabody Public Schools. Prior to her retirement in 1980, she had worked as a stitcher and assembler for the Baby Ideal Shoe Company in Danvers for many years. She was a devoted mother to her family and had a great sense of humor. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Our Lady of Help Hall, and was actively involved with the Peabody Counseling on aging, all in Peabody. She also helped sponsor many Portuguese People who immigrated to the United States and have settled in Peabody. She is survived by a brother, William G. Bettencourt of Lowell; 4 grandchildren, Paula and Diane Scagliotti of Concord, New Hampshire, Antonio Scagliotti of Bristol, RI, and Vincent Scagliotti of Lynn; 5 great grandchildren, Cynthia Simms of Ga., Jill Scagliotti of NH, Skye Gunter of Fla., Christina Scagliotti of RI., and Jessie Scagliotti Thurlow of NH; 3 great great grandchildren, Bianca, Jake and Ashley, all of New Hampshire and several nieces, nephews, God Children and cousins. She was the mother of the late Diane Bettencourt and Nathlie LaBonte, sister of the late Arthur, James, Manuel, and Joseph Bettencourt, Grace Silva, Demmie Dorado and Aldina Costa. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 4 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
