Obituary of Dorothy A. "Dottie" Aylward

Dorothy A. Dottie” (Canavan) Aylward 82, of Peabody, wife of the late Ernest M. “Buddy” Aylward, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Thursday, January 24, 2019 with her family at her side. Dottie was born in Salem on April 8, 1936 the daughter of the late William and Mary (Lewis) Canavan. She was raised in Peabody, attended Peabody High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. Many will remember Dottie from her bartending days at the Collins Café in Peabody, a position she held for many years. Dottie was a loving mother who dedicated her life creating a home for her family, and who was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoyed bowling at Metro Bowl, playing darts and parcheesi. “Her laughter was contagious”. Dottie is survived by her 5 sons, Steven Aylward and his wife Theresa, and David Aylward all of FL, Dennis Aylward, Robert Aylward and his wife Cynthia, and Thomas Aylward all of Peabody; her cherished grandchildren, Greg, Arianna, Andrew, Alexander, Cameron, Cassandra, Tommy, Katelyn, Sam, Hanni and Adam, and her great grandchildren, Haylee and Anthony; 2 sisters, Catherine “Katie” Cavallon of Peabody and Margaret “Peggy” Canty of Wakefield, a brother, John Canavan of Peabody; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Patricia Joan Hussien and Mary Canavan. Dottie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 30th at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the MGH / North Shore Cancer Center, www.massgeneralnorthshore.org .
