Obituary of John W. Burnham
John W. Burnham, 80, of Peabody died Tuesday evening at the Union Hospital in Lynn after a short illness. He was born in Portland Maine on May 28, 1926, the son of the late Howard and Alice (Cady) Burnham and was educated and raised there graduating from Deerfield High School in Portland , Maine. He moved to Peabody in 1954.
He had been a locomotive Engineer with the Boston & Maine Railroad now Amtrac for over 40 years prior to his retirement in 1989.
He was a veteran of WW 11 serving in the US Navy for 2 years prior to his discharge in 1946 and was a member of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody.
He was an avid Red Sox Baseball Fan and was very devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. (Daggett) Burnham of Peabody, a son, Howard J. Burnham of Peterboro, NH, 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and Joseph Wiesler of Burnsville, ME and Kathleen M. Burnham Serrano of Lynn; two step children, Daniel George of Rockport and Janet Riley of Haverhill and the late Alicia McWatters, 7 grandchildren, Kimberly Hesser and her husband Brian, John, and Matthew Hayes and John and Ryan Burnham and Jennifer Cusick; 3 step-grandchildren, Joshua Riley, Travis and Tyler McWatters, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Virginia M. Burnham and Jeannette Clemons.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the new 82 Lynn St., Peabody location. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the North Shore Cancer Clinic, 17 Centennial Drive, Peabody, Ma 01960 in his memory.
