Obituary of Gilbert F. "Gil" White

Gilbert F. “Gil” White, 86, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died peacefully on Friday February 1, 2019 at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly following a brief illness. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Dennis and Kathleen (Harney) White. He was raised and educated in Lynn and upon returning home from Korea, moved to Peabody where he has lived for the past 63 years. Gil was a veteran of the Korean War who served for four years with the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1955. Following the war, Gil was employed as a mason and brick layer for the Allied Craftsman Union for over 40 years before retiring many years ago. Gil enjoyed watching old classic Hollywood movies, listening to vintage jazz music and the oldies from the 1950’s as well. He also enjoyed cars, doing photography and loved animals. Gil is survived by his devoted nephew Leonard S. White of Lynn and his girlfriend Annette Louizos. Gil is also survived by his niece Kathleen Roddy and her husband Albert of Marshall, Illinois, his niece Nancy Beardsley of Athol, MA and nephew Michael McSweeney of Orange, MA, and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Leonard W. White and sister, Kathleen McLeod. Following cremation, visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody and his Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Cedar Grove Ave, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
