Obituary of Miriam F. (Lawrence) Murphy
Miriam F (Lawrence) Murphy, 93, of Peabody, died early Tuesday morning at her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John J. Murphy. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Corbett) Lawrence. She was a life-long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1942. Following her graduation, she attended Hawthorne Institute in Salem for 1 year. Miriam was employed as a mail order clerk at the former Deerskin Trading Post for many years before she retired. Miriam enjoyed reading, traveling, and going to various restaurants on the North Shore and was an avid sports fan of Boston’s professional sports team, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. She is survived by her son, John J. Murphy, Jr and his wife Lauree Murphy of El Granada, CA, her daughter, Mary Lou Murphy of Peabody, her beloved grandchildren, Sean Murphy and his wife Lindsay Vo and Liam Murphy, all of CA, her nieces and nephews, Henry H. Tufts III and his partner René Garza of Brookline, Julie and Frederick L. Tufts of New Canaan, CT, Monica M. Tufts-Povemba and her husband Stephen Povemba of White Plains, NY, and is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews and her good friend, Joan Alexander of Danvers. She was predeceased by her siblings, Frederick Lawrence, Jr and Margaret V. Tufts and her two good friends, Patricia Walsh and Winifred Yale. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 CHURCH ST, DOWNTOWN LOCATION, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either VNA Care Hospice.
