Obituary of Joseph Silva

Joseph Silva PEABODY Joseph Silva, 79, beloved husband of Zilda (Silva) Silva, died Saturday evening at the Salem Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Cirino de Sousa & Maria (Lima) Silva. He lived here in his youth, then moved over to Graciosa, Azores, Portugal with his family where he lived for 16 years. He then returned to Peabody where he lived for the last 52 years. Mr. Silva was a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, was a member of the Holy Ghost Society, Our Lady of Help Society, a supporting member of the Banda Recreativa (the Portuguese Marching Band), he loved music and had played the Trombone and Baritone Horn, and loved fishing in the ocean off Beverly and lobstering. He is survived by: his wife, Zilda (Silva) Silva of Peabody; one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph & Susan Silva of Topsfield; twin grandchildren, David & Stephen Silva of Topsfield, and one niece Mary Brauninger of Peabody. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maria Almeida, a nephew Leo Almeida, and a granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth Silva. . His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
