Obituary of Barbara A. (Pomeroy) Bailey

Barbara A. (Pomeroy) Bailey Barbara A. (Pomeroy) Bailey, 81, beloved wife of John Bailey, died unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday evening following a long illness. Born in Gardiner, ME, she was the daughter of the late Ora and Grace (Littlefield) Pomeroy. She lived in Gardiner for many years, and attended schools there. She graduated from Gardiner High School, and attended the University of Maine. She later transferred to Fisher Junior College of Massachusetts, and lived in the Peabody area for 54 years. She was mostly at home, nurturing her loving family, devoted in her faith and active at the First Baptist Church in Peabody, and volunteering with several organizations. She was the Administrative Assistant at the First Baptist Church in Peabody, volunteered with the J.B. Thomas Hospital of Peabody, occasionally worked for Witham Catering, led Diabetic Support Groups with JB Thomas Hospital and then Beverly Hospital, was Past President of the Peabody Women’s Club, a member of the Peabody Historical Society, the Literature Club of Peabody, was a Den Mother with Scouts, a Camp Fire Girl Leader, was artistic as a talented Seamstress and worked ceramics, collected Stamps (Philatelist), tracked geneology, grew herbs and loved cooking as the basis for gathering family and friends, and loved cats. She is survived by: her husband, John Bailey of Peabody, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage; one son and daughter-in-law, David & MaryAnn Bailey of Hampton, NH; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Sullivan of Peabody, Eloise & Matt Allen of Enfield, CT, and Susan & Neal Truesdale of Peabody; nine grandchildren, Jeff & Lesa Trowt, Jill Trowt, April & Mark Tozlowski, Jennifer & Jeff Jensen, Nicholas Allen, Paul Allen, Elizabeth Allen, Briana Truesdale, and Caitlin Truesdale; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordyn, Luke, Megan, Emily, Chris, and Kate, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death besides her parents, by a son Paul N. Bailey and a sister Betty Dunton. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to her Funeral Service on Sunday at 1 PM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., at the new location in Peabody. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 P.M. Graveside Committal will be on Monday July 3, 11:30 A.M. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner, Maine.
