Obituary of Elaine Marie (Morfis) Rice

Elaine Marie (Morfis) Rice, 71, of Lynn and formerly of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Chris and Stella (Spyropoulos) Morfis and step daughter of Ruth (Pickney) Morfis of Peabody. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1964. She continued her education at Salem State College and received her BS in Education in 1970. Elaine was employed for over 34 years as a supervisor for Social Security before finally retiring. She also was very active in the community she lived in and at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church. She was the first women president on the board of directors for St. Vasilios and was a member of the Daughters of Penelope and Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling to Aruba, gambling, paying golf and she also enjoyed bowling as well. Elaine is survived by her three brothers, George and Stephen Morfis, both of Peabody, and Peter Morfis of Danvers, her sister, Jayna and her husband Richard Lowe of Beverly, her daughter-in-law, Amy Rice of Peabody, her beloved three grandchildren, Alyssa, Katelyn, and Ryan Rice, and is also survived by her nieces and nephews, George and Lisa Morfis, Chris and Laura Morfis, John Morfis, and Connor, Arianna, and Hannah Lowe. She was predeceased by her son Peabody firefighter James Rice. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
