Obituary of George Thompson
George Thompson, 88, of Peabody, died early Friday morning at the Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody following a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Audrey (Reed) Thompson for 59 years. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Panagiota (Papavasilopoulos) Theofanis. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1948. George was a deli/bakery manager for First National Stores and worked throughout the North Shore retiring after 40+ years of service. George was involved with youth recreational sports, he was either coaching girls’ softball or was an umpire. He was a member of the Jordan Lodge in Peabody, the Scottish Rite in Salem and Boston, and was a member of the Aleppo Shrine as well. He enjoyed watching all of Boston’s professional sports teams, especially the Bruins and Red Sox and also enjoyed reading. Besides his loving wife Audrey, George is survived by his son Peter and his wife Tracy Thompson of Westford, his two daughters, Cynthia and her husband Kevin Bernier of Peabody, and Brenda and her husband Larry Stefani of Andover, and is also survived by his beloved four grandchildren, Rebecca and Michelle Thompson and Kara and Ella Stefani. He was predeceased by his sister, Georgia Karamas. George’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Brudnick Center for their caring and compassion during these last 5 years. They are truly grateful for all you do. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 PM at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Cedar Grove Ave, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to either Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
