Obituary of Francis A. Cook
Francis A. Cook, 81, of Peabody, died Saturday at the Beverly Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Rose (Santos) Cook.
He was born in Provincetown, MA on November 25, 1924, the son of the late Frank F. and Clara (Cabral) Cook and was educated and raised there.
He entered the US Coast Guard in WW 11 and following his discharge had resided in Peabody for the past 56 years.
In his early years he was an avid fisherman and later worked at the Osram GTE Sylvania in the Danvers plant for 20 years. He then operated with his wife, Reno’s Sub Shop in Cambridge for 10 years prior to his retirement.
He loved being with horses and had a Riding Stable on Lynnfield St in Peabody for many years. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Leo Council #508 Knights of Columbus of Peabody and then helped organize the Order of Alhambra, Lugo Caravan #113 of Peabody. He served as Grand Commander and as a Deputy Regional Director of Alhambra for many years. While at the Knights, he helped in running the Weekly Bingo games.
He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Frank & Lisa Cook and Gary and Ruthann Cook all of Peabody, three daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Jesse DiPlacido of Lynnfield, Priscilla and Manny Raposo of No Andover and Clara and Joe Spatafore of Peabody, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Carol Cook of Yarmouth, Richard & Judy Cook of Kansas and Ralph and Jeannie Cook of Dennis, MA, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Richard DiPlacido.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the new 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Order of Alhambra, Lugo Caravan #113, P.O. Box 204, Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
