Obituary of Christopher Mello

On Sunday March 24th Christopher Allen Mello, 36, of Peabody, unexpectedly past away of natural causes. He was born at Salem Hospital on January 10th 1983 to the late Thomas Mello and Diane Beatrice. Chris was born with a congenital heart defect (HLHS), which at the time of his birth gave him a life expectancy of 2 years. He defied those odds. Chris spent much of his childhood and adulthood being ferried between doctor’s visits, hospital stays and multiple surgeries. Through it all, he never complained and always smiled. Chris attended Peabody Veterans Memorial High School after which he enrolled in North Shore Community College. He worked various jobs locally despite his physical limitations. Chris was a true fighter with everything he did in life. He was a wonderful, sweet and caring soul, friendly to everyone, making friends everywhere he went. Chris was dedicated to his entire family and had a special bond with his father Tom. Their mutual interest in computers created valuable one on one time for father and son. Chris also looked forward to his time spent with his nieces and nephews, whether he was taking them to a movie or simply playing a video game together. He never missed a birthday or special occasion for them. Chris’s other love was of all Boston sports teams and would attend as many games as possible. He will truly be missed, but his legacy will live on long past his life. In coordination with his cardiology team, Boston Children’s Hospital and his family, Christopher’s heart and major organs were given to medical science to be studied for years to come. He is survived by his brother Keith Mello and his fiancé, Kerry Greene and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jessica and Patrick MacMillan and Ashley and Jason Beckwith, his uncle Philip and his wife Marilyn Mello, his grandparents Mary And John Toohey , three Aunts Maureen Rowson and husband, Walter, Debra Decoulos and husband, Peter and Jeannie Spencer; His father's companion of 12 years, Lisa Koehler, and step-siblings Ryan Koehler, Jamie Murphy and the late Quintin Koehler; nine nieces and nephews: Sadie, Lily, Colby, Dravin, Jace , Layla, Daniel, Liam and Megan along with a multitude of cousins and devoted friends.
