Obituary of Michael W. Rizzo, Sr

Michael W. Rizzo, Sr., CPA, 88, formerly of Samoset Rd., W. Peabody, died Sunday, March 31, 2018, at the Beverly Hospital following an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Rebecca (Labovich) Rizzo. Born in Boston on November 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Giacomo and Maria (Forte) Rizzo. He had resided in Somerville for many years before moving to W. Peabody in 1960. He was a graduate of Somerville High School, Burdett College and had attended Bentley College. Michael was self-employed as a public accountant in Boston’s North End, Medford, Peabody and Saugus for many years before retiring as a CPA in 1997. He was also once employed at Raytheon for several years. Michael was a member and Past-President of the Massachusetts Association of Public Accountants, served in the National Guard and was an avid golfer. In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his daughter, Karen M. (Rizzo) Marsh and her husband, James E. Marsh, Jr. of Saugus; three sons, Michael W. Rizzo, Jr. and his wife, Jane (Gentile) of W. Peabody, Gerald A. Rizzo and his wife, Lisa (Ganz) of Delray Beach, FL and Paul Rizzo and Tami Ewing-Mackay of Beverly; five grandchildren, Matthew W. Rizzo and his wife, Alicia of Danvers, Genna M. Valeri and her husband, Dana of Beverly, Justin A. Rizzo and his wife, Alexandra of Orlando, FL, Jonathan S. Rizzo of Amesbury and Janelle E. Marsh of Saugus; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Craig, Paige and Samuel Rizzo and Angelo and Josephine Valeri; sister, Mary Rizzo of Stoneham; brother-in-law, David Labovich of Lynn and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Anthony R. Rizzo and his wife, Sylvia (D’Ambrosio) and Giacomo Rizzo and a sister, Madeline DiPinto and her husband, Salvatore and three brothers-in-law, Melvin, Irving and Steven Labovich. His funeral services will be held from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Adelaide’s Church. 708 Lowell St., W. Peabody at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 209 W. Central St., Suite 220, Natick, MA 01760. Interment will be held in Puritan Lawn Cemetery.
