Obituary of Irja (Anderson) Hayden
Irja (Anderson) Hayden, 87, of Peabody, died on Tuesday, July 4th at the Hunt Retirement and Nursing Home, Danvers after a long illness. She was the wife of the late W. Stuart Hayden.
She was born in Peabody on December 18, 1918, the daughter of the late Waldemer and Elsa (Pynnonen) Anderson and had resided here all her life. She was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1937 and was a soloist on many school functions. She also sang at many church and north shore functions throughout her career.
She had been a banquet waitress at the Towne Lyne House, The Ship and the Colonial Restaurants in Lynnfield, and later at the Kings Grant Restaurant in Danvers and also was a waitress at the former Violets Restaurant in Peabody.
She had been a member of the Peabody Emblem Club # 2 and enjoyed going to Fox woods in Ct.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Hayden and a son, William S. Hayden, both of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helvi Anderson, Joel W. Anderson and Elsa Pantazelos.
A Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the new 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Peabody, MA 01960.
