Obituary of Nicholas G. "Nick" Spaneas

Nicholas G. “Nick” Spaneas, 82 PEABODY -- Nicholas G. "Nick" Spaneas, 82, of Peabody, died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 8, 2019. Born on April 13, 1936 in Peabody, he was the beloved husband of Theodora “Teddie” (Zolotas) Spaneas and the loving father of Angelo N. Spaneas. Nick was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Peabody High School Class of 1954. In 1955, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served honorably until his discharge in 1959. He was employed for many years in the family business Zolotas Hardware & Supply until his retirement in 2002. He was a former Essex County Deputy Sherriff, and most recently was employed part time at Home Depot in Danvers. Nick was lifelong member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Order of AHEPA and St. Val’s Men’s Club. He served on the Board of Directors of the former J.B. Thomas Hospital, the Greater Peabody -Lynnfield YMCA, the American Red Cross and the Kiwanis Club of Peabody. Most recently he was a member of the Peabody Zoning Board. In addition to his wife Teddie with whom he shared 54 years of marriage and his son Angelo, he was the brother of Peter G. Spaneas and Constance Liberti both of Peabody, Stella Maniatakos of Lowell. He leaves a sister-in-law Angela Nash of Key Biscayne, FL; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was predeceased by his parents George P. and Anthoula “Catherine” (Psoinos) Spaneas, and his siblings Daniel G. Spaneas, Irene Spaneas and Stamatia Pappafotopoulos. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 11th followed by his service at 12:30 p.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
