Obituary of Sharlene (Orne) Preece

Sharlene E (Orne) Preece, 80, of Peabody and formerly of Marblehead, died Friday morning surrounded by her loving family at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Robert A. Preece with whom she shared over 55 years of marriage. Born in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Clara (Suwinski) Orne. She was raised and educated in Marblehead and upon marrying her husband Robert, moved to Peabody where she has lived for the past 55 years. Sharlene fist worked for the telephone company as an operator and then as clerk for the Holyoke Insurance Company. After he children were grown, she started back in the work force in 1978 and worked alongside her husband who was the owner of NEATCO in Peabody. Sharlene had a generous spirit and loved having family gatherings for the seasonal holidays. Her home was always festive with the seasonal decorations and loved celebrating with her family on the special occasions, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. She also loved animals, her garden and spring and summer flowers and she enjoyed watching of all Boston’s professional sports teams as well. Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her daughter, Laurie Preece of Goffstown, NH and by her son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Sharon Preece of Danvers, her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Marjorie Orne of Marblehead, her sister, Sandra Orne and by many cousins, nieces and nephews and her dear cat, Bruschi. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02130.
