Obituary of Armando G. Mesquita

Armando G. Mesquita, 89, of Peabody, passed away Tuesday Evening at the Beverly Hospital, following short illness. He was the beloved husband of Dulce Branco Morais Mesquita. Armando was born in Valpaços, Trás-os-Montes, Portugal, on May 13, 1929, son of the late Joao Eduardo and Olinda Trindade Mesquita. He was raised and educated there, later joining the Guarda Nacional Republicana where he served as a guard for 20 years, also playing the trumpet in their band. He immigrated with his family to the U.S. on August 22, 1969. Prior to his retirement, he worked within the leather factories in Salem and Peabody. He was a longtime, active member of the Clube de Luis Camoes in Peabody, where he served as a director for many years, and also a past president of the club’s soccer team. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, growing fig trees, tending to his grape vine, watching his favorite soccer team, S.L. Benfica, attending the monthly dinners at the C.L.C, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very proud of his Portuguese heritage, and passed on those values and traditions on to his family, leaving a lasting legacy that they will cherish and carry with them forever. Besides his loving wife, his leaves behind his children and their spouses, Angelo & Mary Anne Mesquita of Peabody, Fernando & Alda Mesquita of Peabody; his grandchildren and their spouses, Veneza & Evan Pimantal, Sergio & Shelley Mesquita, and Filipe Mesquita & his fiancé Cristina Ferrer; his great-grandchildren; Addison, Micaela & Mathew Stoico, Henry “Hank” , Alyce, & Joshua Prado, Reid Pimantal, Xavier, Laurel, & Kiersten Mesquita: a good friend, Jose Brazileiro, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was the brother of the late Fernando Rodrigues. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 4- 8P.M. at the Conway, Cahill- Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St.,, Peabody, MA. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 9:30A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody at 10:30A.M. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
