Obituary of William H. Mallas

William H. Mallas 73, husband of Mary (Pappadopoulos) Mallas of Peabody, died Wednesday at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Mallas was born on December 23, 1932 in Peabody son of the late Arestedes and Catherine (Pappas) Mallas. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1950. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army stationed Stateside from 1953 until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1955. He was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Mallas was employed in the shipping & receiving department at GTE Sylvania on Boston St. Salem for 45 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the GTE Sylvania Quarter Century Club and loved traveling by automobile with his family visiting different areas. He devoted his entire life to his family and his grandchildren. In addition to his wife with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, he is survived by 4 sons, Alan Mallas, Theodore Mallas, Steven Mallas all of Peabody, Thomas and his wife Laurie Mallas of Swampscott; a daughter, Kathryn Mallas of Philadelphia PA; a sister, Dena Crean of Peabody; 2 grandchildren, William T. Mallas and Marissa K. Mallas both of Swampscott and several nieces and nephews. A brother Theodore Mallas predeceased him. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday 5 to 8 p.m. Burial services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Altar Fund, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody MA 01960.
