Obituary of Mary (Maklae) Joseph
Mary (Maklae) Joseph, 83, of Beverly, died Tuesday evening at the Youville Life Care in Cambridge following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Wilbur Joseph with whom she shared over 63 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Erema and Paraska (Hilchook) Maklae. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a high school graduate of Essex Aggie in Danvers.
Besides being a homemaker, Mrs. Joseph worked for 10 years at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers until her retirement in 1986.
She was a life long member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Salem and also was a member of the St. Nicholas Women’ s Guild. She also enjoyed reading and extensive traveling with her husband throughout the United States and abroad.
She will be dearly missed by a two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Stavropoulos of Salem and Barbara and Gerald Surette of Litchfield, NH; two sisters, Anna Sousa and Olga Cassell, both of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Sonia Maklae of Peabody, four grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Marion Crosby and John Maklae.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by Services in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Salem at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7-9 PM with a Panikhida Service at 7:30 PM. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
