Obituary of Carmen Cecelia (Mallia) Wesala

Peabody – Carmen Cecelia (Mallia) Wesala passed away at the Brudnick Center for Living on Monday, April 29, 2019. She was the daughter of Anthony and Jeanette Mallia and was one of eleven children. She was born in Middlebury, Vermont on January 24, 1918. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Elmer (Wes), with whom she shared more than fifty years of marriage. Carmen and Wes lived most of their married lives on the South Shore. She was employed by the A.C. Lawrence Company for 18 years as well as Bradlees in Braintree for 18 years. Upon their retirement they settled in Peabody. She loved ballroom dancing and playing whist and enjoyed the company of many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Carmen spent her last years at the Brudnick Center for Living where she lived with her three living sisters and her brother Larry who passed away last fall. She was blessed to spend her final years together with her remaining siblings. Carmen leaves a step daughter Carla Getto of Cohasset and a grandson, Timothy Getto of Scituate. She is predeceased by her sister Marguerite Cullen and her husband Bill; brothers George Mallia and his wife Tina; Larry Mallia and his wife Catherine (Tina); Johnny Mallia and his wife Lorraine; and her brothers, Sam and Joseph as well as three brothers-in-law, George Southwick, Guido Cena and John O’Brien. She is survived by 3 sisters, Georgia Southwick, Mary Cena and Lucy O’Brien. A private Funeral Service was held on Thursday May 2 with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind at 600 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111 or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
