Obituary of Paulino N. Garcia

Paulino N. Garcia, 76, of Salem, passed away late Friday evening at his residence, following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Alda Maria de Sousa (Pereira) Garcia, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Paulino was born on April 2, 1943, in Pico, Azores, Portugal, son of the late Joao G. & Maria Machado Caetano (das Neves) Goncalves. He was raised and educated in Pico, then went on to get married before emigrating to the United States to start a new life, but never forgetting his roots, and continuing on with the traditions and values he was taught. Prior to his retirement, he worked within the leather industry, at the Tan-Rite Leather Company in Peabody and also at Ideal Baby Shoe in Danvers. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where he was also instrumental in the building of the church, and also a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, both in Peabody. He enjoyed dancing, working in his garden/yard, traveling to Pico, especially to visit his mother, but most importantly, he enjoyed being surrounded by his loving family. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Besides his loving wife of 50 years, he is survived by his children, Cliff Garcia, Elizabeth Garcia & her husband Ross Brakman; his mother-in-law, Maria Boa Silva, and his good friends, Antonio & Esther Mendonca. He also leaves behind many friends and acquaintances in the Portuguese community, A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, from 5 – 8P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 10, at 9A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
