Obituary of John A. "Sonny" Tracchia

John A. “Sonny” Tracchia,76, husband of Nancy S. (Osborne) Tracchia of Peabody died Saturday July 8, 2006 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Mr. Tracchia was born April 20, 1931 in Peabody son of the late John and Jennie (Barone) Tracchia. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1949. He was a lifelong resident of the city. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1st Class from 1950 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1953. During his tour of duty he was also stationed in Korea and was attached to the 3201st Boat Squadron. Mr. Tracchia was employed for 37 years as a Boston Union Local 1044 glazier until his retirement in 1993. He was a life member of the DAV Post 100 in Peabody and an associate member of the Lafayette Club in Salem. He was an avid golfer and he also enjoyed gardening as a hobby. His family would gather weekly at his home for the "traditional Thursday family pasta night". In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 3 children, Katharine J. “Kate” O’Malley and her husband Kevin, David N. Tracchia all of Wilmington and Amy J. Tracchia of Lynn; his step daughter, Heather A. Eagan of Stockbridge; his 5 siblings, Pauline Langley, Nicola Tracchia, David Tracchia all of Peabody, Charles Tracchia of Haverhill and Edward Tracchia of Malden; 4 grandchildren, Joseph G. Tracchia of NC, Mark A. Tracchia of Peabody, Lily G. O’Malley of Wilmington and Olivia M. Tracchia of Lynn and many nieces and nephews. His first wife Marygrace (Nolan) Tracchia predeceased him. A service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., (new facility) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. Cremation will follow services.
