Obituary of Marina A. (Bettencourt) Maria
Marina A. (Bettencourt) Maria, 82, of Peabody, passed away Friday afternoon at the Brentwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danvers, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Isidro R. Maria, who passed away in 2015. Marina was born on January 29, 1937, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Jose & Rosa (Brazil) Bettencourt. She was raised in Terceira, prior to emigrating to the United States in 1977. While in the United States, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at various nursing homes around the North Shore, a career which she cherished because of her love of caring for the elderly. She was also a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost and Center Church, both in Peabody. She enjoyed writing, reading poetry, cooking a variety of Portuguese food, watching bullfights from her home island of Terceira, but most importantly, being surround by her loving family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a son; Isidro Maria; her daughters; Grace Martins, Paula Borges, Teresa Coelho, Marina Camara, and Jessie Maria; her 16 loving grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 19, from 11A.M. – 3 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Monday, May 20 at 10A.M at Center Church, 24 Washington St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
