Obituary of Mary Anita (McGrath) Champigny
Mary Anita (McGrath) Champigny, 80 years, wife of Louis A. Champigny of Peabody, died Thursday at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody.
Mrs. Champigny was born March 22. 1923 in Winthrop, daughter of the late Joseph J. and Anna M. (Flynn) McGrath. She was raised and educated in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1939. From 1943 she resided in Lynn before making her home in Peabody in 1950.
Mrs. Champigny was employed for 15 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Welfare Department in Lynn and then for the City of Peabody Water department for 8 years prior to her retirement in 1986. She was very active in St. Ann’ s parish in Peabody and devoted her life to her family. Mrs. Champigny traveled worldwide and loved to write poetry.
In addition to her husband with whom she shared 63 years of marriage she is survived by 4 sons and their wives, Paul and Gail Champigny, James and Elyse Champigny all of Peabody, Brian and Deborah Champigny of Merrimack NH and Garry and Barbara Champigny of Portland OR; 8 grandchildren, Wendy Champigny of Georgetown, David Champigny of Acton, Jason and Andrew Champigny of OR, Vanessa Champigny and Jonathan Champigny of Peabody, Jennifer Given of Manchester NH and Kevin Champigny of Merrimack NH; 3 great grandchildren, Michael, Julie and Connor Champigny of NH and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Howard, Gordon and Joseph McGrath.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10.m. in St. Ann Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923.
