Obituary of Mary Pauline (Garrett) Courtney

Mary Pauline (Garrett) Courtney, 59, formerly of Peabody and Marblehead, died Friday morning at the Blair House in Tewksbury, MA after a long illness. Mrs. Courtney was born and raised in Schenectady, New York, on September 20, 1944, the daughter of the late Reed and Mary (St. Jean) Garrett and was a graduate of Linton High School and Albany Business College. She moved to Marblehead in 1969 where she was employed with the Town of Marblehead for 20 years prior to her retirement. She had resided in Peabody for 10 years prior to her illness. She loved to knit and crochet and was a member of the choir in St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Marblehead and later at the South Congregational Church in Peabody. She was the former wife of Edward T. Courtney of Marblehead. She is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dianna J. and Christopher C. Chmiel of Peabody, a twin sister and her husband, Joan Ann and John Robertson of Clifton Park, NY, a special niece that was like her daughter, Dana Elting of Peabody, a great niece Danielle Elting of Peabody and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM .
